Special events to celebrate Kenton School
As part of the national Building Schools for the Future, a brand new Kenton School will open on 2nd September, 2008. Construction has been totally separate from the existing school and has not interfered with the day-to-day work of Kenton students and staff.
The final phase of the site works will not be complete until May 2009 when all the landscaping work will be complete. The original Kenton School was opened by the Right Honourable Lord Morrison of Lambeth to pupils and staff on Friday 17th March, 1961 and will close its doors for the very last time on Friday 11th July 2008, celebrating 48 years of learning and teaching.
A host of special events have been organised to celebrate a milestone in Kenton School’s history; pupils, past students, current and former members of staff will have the opportunity to participate in various activities, for example, a celebration lunch, an auction and a music, dance and drama performance at ’The Sage’.
The Last Lesson Performance @ the SAGE
10 July 2008 7:00pm
The Sage will open its doors at 7:00pm on Thursday 10th July to perhaps one of the most original and imaginative shows chronicling 48 years in the life of Kenton School.
This wonderful 2- hour performance will take you through a magical experience of Kenton Past, Kenton Present and Kenton Future revisiting the last four decades with music, dance and drama. The performance will include sketches relating to:
- the school uniform
- school dinners
- the Headteacher’s log
- a tribute to Nelson the school cat and much, much more.
The music will relive the Beatles, the Shadows, Queen, hits of the 80’s, various Musicals from Jungle Book to Aladdin with a grand finale ’The Circle of Life’ from the Lion King. Tickets are on sale from Kenton School office at a give away price of £5 , which includes refreshments.
Kenton's Last Lesson - Open Day, Auction and Performance
12 July 2008 10:00am -3:00pm
’School Days’ are supposed to be the best days of our lives and this is a golden opportunity to rekindle those memories by visiting Kenton School for one last time on Saturday 12th July from 10:00am to 3:00pm before the bulldozers arrive.
Walk the corridors, visit the dining areas and if you take a deep breath you might get a faint smell of rice pudding or perhaps a treacle sponge and custard.
Remember your first day at Kenton and how nervous you were - worried about getting lost and not making any new friends. Your first crush which turned you into a gibbering wreck and that teacher who scared the living daylights out of you. What about your favourite teacher, their classroom? How much have the rooms changed and how much have you changed? Remember your classmates, those whose names you can still recall, where are they now?
There will also be an opportunity to have a family photograph taken by professional photographer, Roger Coulam who is the resident artist working at Kenton over the next few weeks.
Auction (3:00pm)
Perhaps you would like to purchase a piece of the nostalgia by bidding for some of the school’s memorabilia at 3:00pm in South Hall where an Auction of items from Kenton School will be held. You will get the opportunity to purchase a part of Kenton, whether it is an old typewriter from the library, a painting from the Art department or old school signage. It will be a very diverse and interesting event and bring back lots of memories and laughter.
Some of the proceeds will be donated to Joanne Davidson, a remarkable Year 10 pupil at Kenton School to purchase artificial limbs at a cost of £13,655 which will enable her to lead as normal a life as possible.
Kenton Performance (7:00pm)
The finale of the day will be a recreation of the Sage Performance, in East Hall at 7pm for the very last production ever to be held in Kenton School as we know it. Tickets are on sale from Kenton School office at a give away price of £5, which includes refreshments.
