What is the course structure?

The course is a 6 unit (single award) consisting of 2 core units, 2 mandatory units of which 1 from each is externally assessed through online testing and a selection of specialist optional units that will give a broad understanding of Engineering processes, applications and careers.

What will I study?

Here is a selection of some units you will study:

 

  • Engineering World

  • Investigating an Engineered product

  • Using Engineering information

  • Mathematics for Engineers

  • Health and Safety in Engineering

  • Engineering maintenance

  • Engineering materials

  • Computer-aided Engineering

  • Machining techniques

 

There will be the opportunity to visit Engineering establishments to complement your studies whilst gaining actual Engineering experiences in an industrial setting.

How is the course assessed?

Units: Engineering World and Mathematics for Engineers are externally assessed through online testing and all other units are internally assessed and externally verified through a portfolio of evidence for each unit.

 

BTEC First Certificate, Extended Certificate and Diploma are vocationally related qualifications equivalent to GCSE A*-C grades.
