What is the course structure?
Students study 4 topics over the 2 years of the course. 3 of these are assessed internally through coursework tasks, 1 is externally assessed through a 60 minute exam. Each unit is weighted at 25%.
What will I study?
Year 10
R022 – Developing effective communication (coursework)
During this unit you will learn about the different types of communication and how Health and Social Care workers should communicate effectively. You will also complete a practical role play task.
R025 – Development through life (coursework)
During this unit you will learn about the different developmental milestones that people hit as they age. You will also look at factors that may influence this before analysing case studies of individuals with different medical conditions.
Year 11
R023 – Body systems and disorders (coursework)
During this unit you will learn about three major human body systems. You will also examine the causes, treatment and diagnosis of three different medical conditions before completing a practical task.
R021 – Essential values of care (exam)
During this unit you will learn about the different rules for workers in Health and Social Care. You will analyse the effects on individuals if they are not cared for appropriately.
How is the course assessed?
The course is assessed through a variety of coursework essays, practical tasks and an exam.
