Year 9, Year 10, Year 11, Year 12 and Year 13

This course is offered to Key Stage 5 learners who require the opportunity to resit.

What is the course structure?

We begin to embed GCSE skills from Year 7, building upon these through the different years. Pupils study a range of texts to develop the required skills. There are four main components to the EDUQAS GCSE English Language course. Each term in Year 7 to Year 11 focuses on a different section to prepare pupils for their GCSEs at the end of Year 11 – these skills are taught through different topics at Key Stage 3.

 

Component 1: 20th Century Literature Reading (Section A) and Creative Prose Writing (Section B)

 

Component 2: 19th and 21st Century Non Fiction Reading (Section A) and Transactional/Persuasive Writing (Section B).

What will I study?

Year 9

 

  • Term 1: Component 1 – Analysing pieces of fiction and creating fiction linked to a range of contemporary topics.

  • Term 2: Component 2, Section A – Analysing pieces of non-fiction linked to a range of contemporary topics.

  • Term 3: Component 2, Section B – Writing persuasively linked to a range of contemporary topics.

Year 10

  • Term 1: Component 1 – Analysing pieces of fiction and creating fiction linked to a range of contemporary topics.

  • Term 2: Component 2, Section A – Analysing pieces of non-fiction linked to a range of contemporary topics.

  • Term 3: Component 2, Section B – Writing persuasively linked to a range of contemporary topics.​

Year 11

  • Term 1: Component 2 – exam focus.

  • Term 2: Component 1 – exam focus.

  • Term 3: Revision – exam focus.
